2006 to 2008 - "The Early Years"
After I got the knack of spinning, I immediately became interested in dyeing my own fiber. I wanted to craft my own unique color combinations. To realize this dream, I knew I needed professional instruction. So, in my sophomore year of university, I managed to weasel my way into a studio dyeing class taught by a visiting artist, Deb Dryden. While the class was intended primarily for textile dyeing, the techniques, science, and artistry I learned nonetheless gave me the confidence to push forward with my dream of dyeing my own fiber.
I dyed my first roving in the basement kitchen of my dorm room. I've looked far and wide for a picture of this kitchen--words just can't describe the tiny space I was working in! Despite the working space, I was immediately hooking my the process of dyeing. For anyone who has never dyed, it's hard to describe the mixture of chemistry and artistry required to create something beautiful. Needless to say--I was immediately hooked.
Sept 2008 - The Business is Born
This continued for approximately 2 years, until the business became too large for me to handle. At that point, I knew I needed some help. Time to recruit--my mother.
Luckily, she agreed to a trial period. With that, Sheepish Creations took its modern form.
